Last Thoughts for 2013

We have never had much to do the week after Christmas, and this year was no exception.

The weather outside is frightful and the fire is so delightful. I have spent some pretty good time at home. Snuggled in.

One year we spent Christmas Day at a theme park in Florida. That was strange.

We don't have a large family. No crazy uncles visit. No grandchildren. Our only granddog, sadly for our Florida family, was put to rest before Christmas.

But the enhancements recently added to the sound system on our television and our generous cable package plus netflix provide us with some pretty good entertainment options at home.

I did at least one pretty good thing to close out the year. I bought a couple dozen poinsettias and set them up at church for the New Year's Eve candlelight service. They were marked down to $1 each and were nice--no dead leaves and in a variety of colors. This was a long-standing tradition of old Frank, who died last February: bringing left-over poinsettias to church. Harriet and her husband helped me. It was cold and we backed up our vehicles over the sidewalk to the front door to unload the tender plants. We did not fill the whole stage as per the usual irrational exuberance of Frank, but the poinsettias looked nice. I hope that all the plants will find good homes tonight and not have to be gathered up and tossed out into my (illegal) compost bin.

I gifted myself with one after the service.
So that's it. Another year. Except for a few health issues, it was a pretty good year!
